Yen is the official currency symbol for Japan and China. However, Yuan is primarily used by Chinese with the international ISO code as CNY. How to Type Yen Symbol?
In Windows 10 computers, turn on numeric lock, press alt key and 0165 using number pad. This will make Yen sign ¥ on your document.
You can type Yen sign in Word documents by typing 00A5, then press alt and X keys together.
On MacBook, you have to first change the input method to Unicode Hex Input. After that, hold the option key and type 00A5 keys to make Yen sign ¥.
Fullwidth Yen sign is another symbol that you can type using Alt + 65509
in Windows and Option + FFE5
in Mac. Most Chinese writing applications use fullwidth Yen sign by default as a currency symbol.
You can use decimal &# 165;
or hexadecimal code &#x 00A5;
or entity name & yen;
in HTML documents to insert the sign.
Instead of inserting the symbol in HTML, it is also possible to insert the symbol using CSS. You can use the hexadecimal code like content:\00A5;
in CSS style.
Other Utilities to Type Yen Sign
In addition to alt code shortcuts, you can use Character Viewer in Mac and Character Map / Symbol utility in Windows computers. For example, you can insert Yen sign in Windows Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook using Symbol utility.
- Go to “Insert > Symbols > More Symbols” option.
- This will open Symbol dialog box.
- Change the “from:” dropdown to “Unicode (hex)”.
- Click on the “Subset:” dropdown and choose “Latin-1 Supplement”.
- Keep the “Font:” as Arial or any other standard fonts.
- Double click on the Yen sign to insert on your document.
Similarly, you can use Character Map app to find and insert Yen symbol.
If “Option + 00A5” shortcut not works on your Mac, press “Control + Command + Space” to open Character Viewer app. Search “yen” to filter and insert the symbol.
