10 Shortcut Tips for Quick Browsing
1. Close and Reopen Tabs
If someone approaches when you are browsing a personal website, you can quickly close the site. After a while, you can again open the same site using another shortcut keys.
- Press Control + W to close a website.
- Press Control + Shift + T keys to reopen the previously closed site.
You can press Control + W repeatedly to close multiple websites. Similarly, press Control + Shift + T keys repeatedly to reopen all the previously closed tabs in browser.
2. Open Link in New Tab
When you want to open a link a new tab, hold control key and then click on the link. This will keep the current page active and open the link in a new tab. Alternatively, you can press the mouse wheel on the link or use center button if your mouse has three buttons.
3. Moving Up and Down
Press Space bar to move down the page and look for the content on next page. Similarly, press Shift + Space to go back to the top part of the page.
4. Quickly Open Websites
Most of the websites will have the domain extension as .com. You can type the site name and press Control + Enter keys to open the full website address. For example, type cnn and press Control + Enter keys to open the website https://www.cnn.com/. Learn more on how this work on different browsers.
5. Open Search Results
If you forgot the website address and want to search for the name use the followings:
- Type the name or keyword you remember in the address bar and press Shift + Enter. This will open the search results using your default browser’s search engine in new browser window.
- After typing the keywords, press Alt + Enter to open the search results in new browser tab.
6. Navigating to Address Bar
When you are reading at the bottom of a webpage, press Control + L to quickly go back to the address bar. Then you can type new website address to open.
Instead of Control + L keys, you can press Control + K to go to search box. This will go to address bar with the default search engine opened. You can type the keywords and press enter to get search results.
7. Refresh Webpage
When you feel the webpage is not loading properly or takes long time, press F5 button to reload the page. Alternatively, you can press Control + R keys to reload or refresh the webpage.
8. Search within Webpage
Control + F to open search box, if you want to search content within the page you are reading. The search box will open on top in Google Chrome while it will show at the bottom in Firefox.
9. Zoom in and Out
You can setup the zoom level of your browser in the settings page. However, single zoom settings may not work well for all websites especially when you use dual monitor displays. In such case, press Control + + or Control + – keys to increase or decrease the zoom level instantly on the current page,
10. Go to Home Page
If you have setup home page on the browser, you can quickly go to the home by pressing Alt + Home keys. This will open the website that you have setup as your home page in the settings.
