After bought by Square, the primary focus of Weebly was shifted to building ecommerce stores rather than content websites. Integrating with a payment processor is one of the complicated parts of running an online store. Weebly makes it simple and offers multiple options depending upon your plan. This article explains how to enable PayPal checkout along with other customizing options.
Weebly Checkout Options
Currently, the following three checkout options are offered by Weebly. PayPal is available ONLY for Weebly Performance plan users.
- Square
- Stripe
- PayPal
Earlier there were options to directly accept credit cards and use Authorize.Net which were removed now. Customers wanted to use credit card need to go through one of the above checkout processes to use the card linked with the payment method. Weebly does not collect or store card information as the processing is done from PayPal / Stripe / Square.

Though connecting is free, you need PayPal Business account for collecting payment from customers.

Changing Weebly Store Currency
Your store currency will be automatically set as per the country you have selected when connecting PayPal account and hence your store currency and PayPal currency are the same. Users will be taken to PayPal website for payment during the checkout process and the amount will be directly credited into your PayPal id configured in Weebly settings.
You can also change the country and currency before connecting to PayPal.
- On the “Settings > Checkout” page, scroll down to bottom and click the “Change” link.
- It will show a “Change currency” pop-up, select your currency from the dropdown.
- Click “Save” button to apply the changes.

Once PayPal is connected, change currency link will disappear as the store will use PayPal setup. You can see your store currency in the “Price” box when creating a product item.

Transaction Fee for PayPal
Customers purchasing items from your site can pay through their PayPal balance or using the linked credit card with PayPal account. Each transaction will cost a commission of 3.49% of paid amount and a fixed fee of $0.49. Let’s say, a customer purchase a digital product with $100 price.
- Product price = $100
- PayPal Commission = 100 * 3.49 / 100 = $3.49
- Fixed fee = $0.49
- Net payment = 100 – 3.49 – 0.49 = $96.02
However, PayPal fees change based on your country and you may also need to pay currency conversion and bank withdrawal fees. For example, Indian PayPal account holders can’t keep the payment in balance and the amount will be automatically settled to bank account. This means an additional currency conversion and bank withdrawal fees are involved. For Square and Strip, the fee is 2.9% for transaction and 30 cents as fixed which is much lower than PayPal fee. So, make sure to check the transaction, fixed, withdrawal and currency conversion fees paid to PayPal before connecting to Weebly store.

Remove or Delete PayPal from Weebly Account
You can disconnect the integration any time later by simply clicking on on the “Disconnect” link on “Settings > Checkout” page.
