Weebly is one of the most popular website building platforms to create ecommerce sites. However, you can also create a content, blog or business site and monetize with pay par click advertisements. The best option is to use programs like Google AdSense using the integrated element and approval process within Weebly editor. In order to use such advertisement programs, you need to upload ads.txt file in your site. In this article, we will explain how easily you can do that in Weebly.
Why to Use Ads.txt File?
Ads.txt is an industry standard using which publishers authorize advertisers to sell ad inventory on their site. This is required by almost all advertising programs to avoid unauthorized frauds. For example, Google will block ads if you do not use ads.txt file on your site when using AdSense program. You can see a warning in your account saying the revenue will be lost if you are not uploading ads.txt file.
So, if you are planning to monetize your Weebly blog then it is mandatory for you to upload ads.txt file in your site. The file should be accessible by adding ads.txt suffix to your domain name like example.com/ads.txt.
Where to Get Content for Ads.txt File?
As you can see in the above screenshot, Google will provide the seller information for AdSense publishers. You can directly download the file when you see the warning in AdSense account or copy/paste the content in a text file and name it as ads.txt.
If you are using other programs like AdThrive, BuySellAds, Mediavine, etc, you need to get the seller details from them.
How to Upload Ads.txt File in Weebly?
As mentioned, the file should be accessible at the root of your website which is not possible with Weebly. Though you can upload files from Weebly Code Editor, the file will not be placed in the root of your site. This means Google and other advertisers can’t verify your file. Fortunately, Weebly has a simple solution for adding ads.txt file.
- Login to your Weebly account.
- Select the site in which you want to show advertisements and upload ads.txt file.
- When you are in Weebly editor, go to “Settings > General” section.
- Scroll down and find “Authorize AdSense” section.
- Paste your ads.txt file content in the text box and save your changes.
- Make sure to click “Publish” button so that the changes will be effective on live site.
