Whenever you write content for your blog, it is difficult to remember all previous posts and link accordingly. Over the period of time this will result in most of the posts are isolated without any traffic as they are not linked to any of the other content on the site. The solution here is to add a related posts widget so that automatically the relevant posts will get linked to relevant article. Unfortunately Weebly’s blogging capabilities are very limited and there is no default way to add related posts widget. In this article let us discuss the possibilities of adding related posts in Weebly blog.

Basics First
There are two things you should understand:
- If you are envy on those related posts available on WordPress sites, then you should change your mind first. Most of the related posts plugins for WordPress is blocked by the popular hosting companies like WPEngine. Because this will result in consuming high server resources.
- Weebly does not have featured image and tags. Also no server side scripting is possible with Weebly.
Combining the two points together, there is no need to have related posts widget that consumes lot of server resources which is not possible with Weebly. The solution here is to look for third party content recommendation packages which will be the future of showing related posts.
Combining Related Posts with Social Sharing
The first option is to look for combining related posts widget along with social sharing option. This is a good idea, as Weebly does not offer much social sharing icons other than Facebook and Twitter. So having different styles of social sharing icons along with content recommendation is an attractive solution.
Among many social sharing options, AddThis offers decent related posts in three different manners.
- Slider
- Inline
- Footer
How to Add AddThis Related Posts in Weebly?
Go to AddThis website and create your account. Click on the “Add New Tool” button available just below the top right corner. Choose “Related Posts” option.
Select the type of related post widget you want for your Weebly site. The slider method is recommended for Weebly site as it shows one or two related post as slideout content. It is not recommended to show related posts on footer. And the inline method works well but you should have more posts on your blog. Let us select the slider option and click “continue” button.
On the editor screen you can arrange the position, theme and style of your related post slider. Under “Advanced Options” you can also choose any specific pages to hide or show. Save your changes to get the code.
Paste the code under “Header Code” section of your Weebly site under “Settings” tab. If you only want the related post slider on blog posts then paste the code under “Header Code” section of the blog under “Settings > Blog > Post header code”. It may take some time for the related posts to show up on your published site. Remember Weebly uses open graph meta tag for all the images on the blog post. So it is difficult to judge which image will be shown in the related posts (similar problem exist with Facebook sharing).
If you are using AddThis social sharing icons, there is no need of pasting additional code for the slider related posts. The same social sharing code will work once you activate the widget in your AddThis account.
Recommended Posts with Disqus Commenting
Weebly allows to enable Disqus commenting system for blog posts. You can configure your Disqus account to enable content discovery on your Weebly blog. The recommended content will be showing below the comments.
Other Options
If you have larger blog (we don’t recommend to have larger blog on Weebly) then there are other popular options available. Google Matched Content Ads is one of the best option if your blog is getting decent traffic and you have eligible AdSense account. Otherwise for very large blogs there are companies like Outbrain and Taboola offers content recommendation.
