AddThis is a popular social sharing widget provider offers two types of social buttons for your website. One is sharing widget and other is a follow widget helps you to enable content sharing and following more attractive than with the default Weebly social icons element. In this tutorial we explain how to add AddThis social sharing widget for Weebly site.
How to Add AddThis Social Widget on Weebly?
Get the Embed Code for AddThis Widget
In order to add the widget, first signup with AddThis site and then login to your account. There are three tools offered under “Tools” menu:
- Social sharing buttons
- Follow buttons
- Recommended content widget
Click on the “Share” option and choose one of the free style you like. In this example, we select “Sharing Sidebar” which floats on the left / right side along with the content scroll.
The next screen provides option for customizing like choosing the social buttons, rearrange the order, selecting the side for the floating bar, etc.
You can view the preview based on your customization. Once the customization is done, copy the widget code by scrolling down to “Get The Code” section and click on the “Activate” button.
Adding the Widget Code in Weebly
Go to the Weebly page and paste the widget code under “Footer Code” section for the social buttons to be shown only on that page. If you want the widget to show on all the pages of your site then paste the code under “Settings > SEO > Footer Code” section. Publish your site to the floating social buttons in action.
Some widgets may also have additional HTML code which needs to be inserted on your Weebly page using “Embed Code” element.
AddThis also offers additional rules under “Targeting” section to create email subscription box, link promotion popup, social sharing popup, etc. You can just create the rule which will be automatically showing on the page with social widget. Click on the “Targeting” tab and then choose the goal as shown below:
Customize the option like where you want to show the widget and save the rule. Clear your browser history and view the Weebly page on which you had pasted the social sharing widget code to see the rules are activated.
