Disqus is the simple and easy way to add a powerful comment control system into your site. Especially with the combination of Weebly’s easy to use site builder and Disqus’s comment controlling, your site will become a wonderful platform for discussion. This will also help to build a community among the commenting users and popularize your site’s brand easily. This article explains step by step process of generating code from Disqus and embedding it in Weebly site.
Manual Vs Automatic Integration
Weebly allows default integration of Facebook and Disqus commenting on blog posts. You can choose this option from your blog settings without adding any codes. The below instructions hold good if you want to add Disqus on Weebly pages.
Step 1 – DISQUS Registration
Open Disqus.com website and click on “Add Disqus to Your Site” link or button.
You will see a “Sign up” window as shown in the below picture. Fill up the username, email address, password and click on “Next step” button. (You need to verify your email by clicking on the confirmation link received).
Fill up the “Site Profile” details with site name, Disqus URL and site’s category. Click on “Finish Registration” button once done.
You will be prompted to select the platform on which you want to install Disqus. Choose “Universal Code” option.
Step 2 – Copy the Code
Setup instruction screen will open along with various options of installing and customizing your comment box. Ensure “Universal Option” is selected in the drop down and copy the script code in the text box.
Step 3 – Embedding in Weebly
Login to your Weebly account and select the site you want to add Disqus. Drag and drop Embed Code element in site’s content area and paste the code copied in Step 2. After a few seconds you should see a comment control system from Disqus appears, you need not to publish your site to see the comment box.
Step 4 – Verifying Installation
The final step is to verify your installation in Disqus. Go to Disqus account setup instruction page and scroll down to the bottom. Click on the “Verify” button to confirm the installation of Disqus comment box in your site.
Note: Width and position of the comment box can be adjusted by placing the Disqus code inside the Spacer element.
because I use weebly within bluehost I needed to use the embedded coding method. so thanks for this tute. However, I followed the steps, but can’t find the validate part in the last step……and the comment box shows up on my weebly builder but not my website even after it is published. any clues?
Is disqus really any good?
It is a good option for reducing spam but users may stop commenting since they may not prefer to register for disqus.
I signed up and added the code to have Disqus on my Weebly site but I’m not really understanding the point. If my blog has a comment section, where am I suppose to but the Disqus box? I originally put it on the side under my RSS feed button but that looks silly. And is Disqus for eCommerce web sites or just for blogs?
Weebly announced beta release of integrated Facebook and Disqus commenting for blog posts and you can expect this feature any time soon. If you want to add comments on content page then use embed element and paste the code from Disqus at the bottom of each page.
