Google has their hands on everything starting from searching, sending emails and the browser. You have a Google product everywhere for doing things online. Though people always talk about the privacy issues when using Google’s products, the use of Chrome browser continues to increase over the period.
Google introduced Chrome in 2008 and in a decade, almost 63% of the people in the world use Chrome. This is a clear indication that other services are not competitive enough to Chrome.
Why Google Chrome is King of Browser World?
- Missing integrations in other browsers
- Leading developer friendly mode
- Security over privacy
- Other features
- Struggling Microsoft
- Firefox is not strong
- Safari a platform dependent browser
1. Other Browsers Does Not Offer Integrated Services
One of the reasons that Chrome rules the browsing world is due to the offering of working in an integrated environment. You can login to Chrome to sync all your browsing data, watch YouTube videos and access Gmail in a click. Unfortunately other browser’s don’t have so many product integrations under single umbrella. You need to give up your convenience in order to use any of the other browsers. The usage statistics is an evident that many people are not ready to do this. Surprisingly, more and more people are moving to this integrated environment thus started using Chrome.
2. Developer Friendly Mode
The web development is a field that decides the use of browsers. Recent days, web development has grown into different level and Chrome is undoubtedly a leader in this field. Again it comes with the integration that webmasters need to follow the Google guidelines to get top ranking in Google Search Engine. While Firefox is also leading the trend from the development perspective, Google offers powerful Developer Tools and SEO audit functions to retain the users.
3. Security Over Privacy
While some people worries about the privacy many of us really concern about the security. Chrome leads the security race by offering stronger browsing environment. Chrome offers sandbox security mechanism to protect malicious attacks and protect your data. Here is what Chrome sandbox does as per the Chromium blog:
In a nutshell, a sandbox is security mechanism used to run an application in a restricted environment. If an attacker is able to exploit the browser in a way that lets him run arbitrary code on the machine, the sandbox would help prevent this code from causing damage to the system. The sandbox would also help prevent this exploit from modifying and even reading your files or any information on the system.
4. Other Features
As we mentioned Chromium, Chrome is derivative product of the open source Chromium project. This helps to retain the hands on both Google and open source developers on the Chrome development.
Chrome offers stable, developer, beta and canary versions to cater the need of all user segments. Though Google does not offer much customization features in Chrome like removing the thumbnails on the new tab page, people try to adjust compared to other browsers.
Let us also check out why other popular browsers could not win in the race.
5. Microsoft Edge
Once Internet Explorer was the only browser ruled the internet. However, poor management of browser development from Microsoft makes IE out of the use. Now Microsoft comes out with Edge as a default browser in Windows 10. However, there are problems like IE is still available in Windows 10. Also Microsoft recently decided to adapt to the Chromium open source, which is from Google. So, it will be another forked version of Chromium similar to Chrome. We need to wait and see how this will evolve and till the time Edge is out of the competition with Chrome.
5. Safari on Mac
Similar to Edge, Safari is the default browser on macOS. Safari offers integrated features with your Mac and has good performance over Chrome in Mac. However, there are no Windows version of Safari making it a platform dependent browser. Even on Mac, Safari will become very slow over the period forcing you to install Chrome. Also Safari does not support some of the modern web development features keeping the developers looking for Chrome.
6. Mozilla Firefox
The major purpose of Firefox is to improve privacy and fight against Google’s intruding features. Therefore, if you are looking for high level of privacy then Mozilla Firefox is the browser for you.
Firefox offers almost features like Chrome and available in mobile, Windows and macOS. However, Google is the default search engine in Firefox that does not make much difference compared to using Chrome. Also if you use Gmail or other Google’s product then you need to follow two sets of histories, which is an inconvenient.
Conclusion
Undoubtedly Chrome offers many features friendly to developers and users. Unfortunately other browser’s don’t have so many product integrations under single umbrella. Edge and Safari are even platform dependent that are not available to normal users on macOS and Windows 10 respectively. Google Chrome is a king of browser’s world simply because there are no good competition at this point of time.
