Public and Internal IP Addresses

Public IP address is generally used by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Website owners and applications use this IP address to offer custom solutions like geographical based translations or restricting content. Since, IPv4 addresses are limited and exhausting fast, your ISP will use single public IP to connect multiple devices. It is done through a router by assigning internal IP address range to multiple devices.

In most cases, you will also have a router that assigns internal IP address for your computer, mobile and other devices. This mechanism is called Network Address Translation by mapping an IP address to another one.
