Mythemeshop is one of the popular companies selling WordPress themes and plugins. They claim to have almost 700k happy customers using their products. We have purchased their themes and plugins and used them on our sites. Based on the experience, here is a genuine review for those looking for buying items from mythemeshop.
What You Will Get?
Unlike many other theme providers, mythemeshop allows unlimited domain usage. This means you can install the purchased items on multiple domains without any limitation. It makes the installation process easy that you don’t need to activate the purchase after installing the theme or plugin. Below are the things what you will get on purchase:
- Unlimited domain usage on personal and client sites.
- One year free support and updates. For products installed on client sites, you should purchase a separate membership for getting support.
- 30 days money back guarantee.
- Easy to use option panel for themes.
- One click demo content import for themes.
Initially mythemeshop was offering lifetime support and updates. Later on they changed the policy and the products are supported only for one year. After a year of purchase, you should get a membership for getting future support and updates.
Theme Install and Updates
Once purchased, you can download the theme and documentation files from the membership area of your methemeshop’s account. The theme zip file contains the theme and demo content. Similar to any other theme, just install and activate the theme through WordPress admin panel or upload the zip file using FTP.
Demo content is a XML file which can be imported using default WordPress import function available under “Tools > Import” menu.
Updating your theme (or plugin) is a hassle process as autoupdate is not available for mythemeshop products. You need to find a plugin called “MyThemeShop Theme/Plugin Updater” from your member’s area dashboard. This needs to be installed on your site and connected to your mythemeshop account in order to get latest updates.
Mythemeshop WordPress Themes
When we write this review, mythemeshop offers 100+ themes.
The collection includes premium as well as free items and targeted to cover broader category of users.
- All themes have an option panel to customize the theme according to your need.
- Optimized for speed and support multiple language.
- Premium themes will have header slider.
- Easy to insert AdSense ads in header, sidebar, below post and below content area.
- Supports related posts, shortcodes and retina font icons.
- All demo types as shown in sales page can be imported with one click.
There are popular themes sold like PointsPro, SociallyViral, MagXP, etc. As far as we have noticed, all themes are updated regularly and compatible with the latest WordPress version.
Theme Integration and Variations
The problem is that most of the themes have very similar look with minor variations. It may not be worth of buying and using it on larger sites for the original price of $69. Probably you can purchase for $19 on discount deal and use it on personal and smaller sites.
Also themes are offered as an independent product. On one hand this makes it easy for switching the theme but on the other hand it will add lot of work to integrate with popular plugins. It will be more appropriate to have a collection of individual themes along with themes bundled with plugins like Visual Composer.
Mythemeshop WordPress Plugins
Mythemeshop offers 25+ free and premium plugins. Some of them are attractive like WP-Review Pro, Content Locker Pro, etc.
Pricing
The showcase price of themes is $59 – $69 and the plugins vary from $27 – $39. But the introductory offer for any theme and plugin is $19 and you can use someone’s affiliate link to get discount even on that $19. The discounts are also offered during various occasions throughout the year. So checkout the price before you purchase.
After a year of purchase, the support and updates can be availed by getting premium membership. The price highly varies based on the subscription for individuals and agencies. Below is the rate offered at this moment which is $19 per month for agencies and $19 per year for individuals per product.
Getting Support
Mythemeshop offers support through theme/plugin documentation, video tutorials and forum. The support is excellent and the queries are responded quickly 24/7. We have raised many clarifications and all those were answered promptly.
Problem with Unethical Business Model
Here comes the bigger problem of using premium themes and plugins with mythemeshop. Though they are existing for around five years, you can’t really find any about us page on their site. Also they follow many unethical business standards for promotion.
Fake Reviews
The reviews shown on the product sales page is a fake one. A theme can’t have hundreds of reviews on the day it’s being published to public. When you click on the review link, it will take you to the testimonials page talking all the client feedback about mythemeshop and not about the specific product.
The problem here is that the review will be showing on Google (for each individual product) as if they are real.
We strongly believe the reviews should be made by public users on individual products. Definitely not the owner votes themselves and link to a generic page.
Wrong User Count
Below is the number of users claimed by them on the homepage and on the membership area page. As a user it makes us to suspect whether this is reliable claim.
And the numbers are growing so fast as you can see the count on the home page screenshot above (just took one day before).
Hidden Truth on More Reviews of Points Theme on WordPress.org
Years ago mythemeshop guys made a mess by encouraging users to leave reviews on WordPress.org site in order to get premium theme. Below is the harsh comment from moderator against those who left 5 star comments on points theme:
The above type of comments and the fake reviews do not provide good sense of feeling to us as a customer. Hence, we discontinued using their themes on our sites.
Summary
Mythemeshop offers good themes and useful plugins. They are light weighted and optimized for search engines. There are very good plugins out there to try out on your site. The themes are priced at their higher end of $69. We can easily purchase a very good theme with Visual Composer, Slider Revolution, etc. for the price of less than $50. Otherwise you may need to buy mythemeshop themes only on discounts for $19. Besides the pricing, unethical business model used by mythemeshop guys is a cause of concern for using their products.
