However, Paint being one of the oldest Windows app did not get new features like dark mode or its own settings. Finally, Microsoft introduced dark mode for Paint app (version 11.2304.17.0) in Windows 11 with the Canary and Dev Channels. If you are keen, here is the update for you.
New Paint App Features
As mentioned, new features are released as part of Windows 11 Canary and Dev channels. As of when this article was published, the features were not available in stable Paint app (version 11.2302.19.0). Therefore, it will take some time for these features to be available in stable Windows edition. Below is how the old Paint app version looks in Windows 11 without a gear icon for customizing the settings. And the zoom level has a slider for moving to preset level without any option to set a custom level like 55.5%.
1. Using Dark Mode in Paint App
The app will get its own settings page (like Notepad) which you can access by clicking on the gear icon showing on top right corner of the app.
By default, Paint app will follow your Windows 11 theme setting. However, you can force dark or light mode from the app’s new settings page as per your convenient.
2. Zoom Enhancements
Current Paint app has a zoom slider on bottom right corner of the app. You can use the slider to adjust the zoom level starting from 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. After that, the increment will be in terms of 100% like 200%, 300% and so on till 800%. The zoom level will show as a % number left side of the slider.
The latest Paint app version will get additional zoom enhancement options in the bottom right corner.
- You can move the slider freely to set zoom level to in-between values like 110%. Otherwise, you can select from one of the preset values using the dropdown (simple text display is changed to dropdown in the new version).
- The dropdown showing left side of the zoom slider will also allow you to manually enter the value. You can type the desired level or select the preset value from the dropdown without using zoom slider. You will also see an additional “Fit to window” icon and clicking on that will adjust entire canvas size to fit with in the visible area.
3. Interface Design Changes
New app will get a style in line with Windows 11 sleek design. For example, you will have a new “Zoom” option under “View” menu to adjust the canvas size. Like older version, you can also highlight access keys by pressing alt key in your keyboard.
Get ready for the new Paint app to enjoy these features.
