Nowadays, Google also offers a dark mode or dark theme option only for using Google Search website. You can use this option without enabling dark mode in your device. In this article, we will explain how to enable dark theme in Google Search.
Dark Theme in Google Search
Dark theme helps to ease the strain on your eyes when you look at the screen for longer time. If you are always using Google Search then it is a good idea to use dark mode. Below is how the normal light mode will look when you open Google Search website in Chrome browser. All search results will also look with a white background that may strain your eyes.
Dark theme will change the complete appearance with the black background to make it convenient when using your desktop or laptop at night times.

Enable Dark Theme in Google Search
There are multiple ways to enable dark theme in Google Search when accessing google.com website.
Enable from Suggestion
Nowadays, when you start searching with Google, the site will offer you a suggestion above the search results. It will say, “Dark theme is now available” and you can enable by clicking on the “Turn on” button.
The page will reload and you will see the dark theme is enabled instantly on the site. You will see a message saying, “You’re now using Dark theme”. You can click “Turn off” button to disable dark mode and return back to the light theme.
Enable from Quick Settings Link
Open goolge.com website in Chrome browser and click on the “Settings” link that appears at the bottom of the screen. It will show an option showing the current status of the dark theme. By default, it should say, “Dark theme: Off” when you have opened the site in light color mode.
Simply click on the “Dark theme: Off” option to toggle and enable it. It takes few seconds to reload the webpage and you will see the Google Search site in complete dark mode. Click on the settings link and it should now show the status as “Dark theme: On”.
You can toggle the dark theme simply by clicking on the “Settings” link.
Enable from Appearance Settings
Alternatively, click on the “Settings” link and select “Search settings” option. It will open Google Search settings page and navigate to “Appearance” section. Here, you can enable using Google Search in dark theme, light theme or opt to use the device default setting.
If you are familiar with command URL in Chrome, then use https://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en&fg=1#appearance in the address bar. This will directly open the “Appearance” search settings page where you can enable dark mode for Google Search site.
After selecting, “Dark theme” option, click “Save” button to save your preferences. Remember, if you have logged in to your Google account, this setting will be synchronized across all your devices. That means, you will be using dark mode in all your devices when enabling it on one device.
Browser Support for Google Search Dark Mode
Google Search dark mode works seamlessly in Chrome browser both in Windows and Mac. You can also use the same way in Firefox to enable dark mode from the settings.
However, dark mode does not work in Mac Safari browser. You will not see any option to enable or disable dark mode when clicking on the settings link.
Similar, it does no work in Microsoft Edge browser also.
So, you can dark mode in Google Search only in Chrome and Firefox browsers.
Dark Mode in Android and iOS
Unlike desktop devices, smartphones does not support enabling dark mode only for Google website. Basically, you can use dark theme based on your device settings both in Android in iPhone. This setting will be applied to all the apps like Google or Google Chrome and not only for specific Google website.
