Windows Hello is one of the sign-in options in Windows 10 that will allow you to use fingerprint or face id recognition. For both face id and fingerprint recognition, you need to have the corresponding hardware and software installed on your computer. In our earlier articles, we have explained how to setup local account, PIN, image password and in this article let us explain how to setup fingerprint login using Windows Hello in Windows 10.
Setup Windows Hello with Fingerprint
Tap or click “Start” button, go to “Settings” menu and choose “Accounts” option.
Navigate to “Sign-in options” tab and scroll down to “Windows Hello” section. You should see “Fingerprint” option when you have installed the fingerprint reader properly. Click on the “Set up” button to create login option using your fingerprint.
Setting Up Windows Hello
On the next screen, you will see the welcome message like below. Click on “Get started” to proceed further.
You will be prompted to enter your PIN. Remember you should have a PIN set as a sign-in option for setting up Windows Hello.
The next screen will look like below asking you to scan your finger on the fingerprint reader. You can use any fingers on the hands to swipe on the reader for few times till the time full finger prints are recorded.
Once the scan is completed you can either scan another finger or close the window.
Login with Fingerprint
Lock or logout the system, you still will be prompted with PIN. Click on the “Sign-in options” and choose fingerprint button login using one of your fingerprints set before. Windows will remember your sign-in and from next time onwards, you will be directly prompted to use fingerprint for sign-in in the lock screen.
You can always use password and PIN options for login, in case if your fingerprint is not working.
Removing Fingerprint Option
Go to “Start Menu > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options” and remove the fingerprint under “Windows Hello” section anytime.
