Windows 11 comes with slew of changes especially in the user interface. Starting from moving the Start menu to the center position in taskbar, it has many changes that traditional Windows users may not accept easily. One of the annoying changes is the right click context menu that comes with “Show more options”. You have to click on the that to see the previous context menu with complete list of items. If you do not like this, here is how to revert Windows 11 right click context menu like previous Windows 10 version.
Windows 11 Right Click Context Menu
The problem is that right click context menu is an essential element in the user interface to get things done. You can right click on the folder, file or in the empty area of desktop or File Explorer to carry out different operations. In addition, many apps in Windows will add a menu item in the context menu for quick access.
Here is how the new Windows 11 right click menu is looking when using on the empty desktop area.
And here is how it looks on the File Explorer when right clicking on any file or folder.
Now that you will have to lose all the previous options with the new Windows 11 right click context menu. in addition, you have to click one additional time to view all available options. If you use right click menu frequently, this essentially means that you have to click hundreds of times redundant on the “Show more options” to reveal the menu item you want to use.
Revert Windows 11 Right Click Context Menu Like Windows 10
This needs a modification in your registry editor. Though this is an easy process, you can always take a backup of the registry so that it is easy to restore in case of a need.
- Press “Win + R” keys and open Run prompt in your Windows 11 computer. Alternatively, you can also use Windows Search to search and open Registry Editor.
- Type regedit and press “OK” key to open Windows Registry Editor app.
- Navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\ location in the registry editor.
- Right click on the empty area on right pane and create key by navigating to “New > Key” menu.
- It will create a new key under CLSID folder with the name as “New Key #1”.
- Replace the “New Key #1” with {86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}. You can directly edit the key name immediately after creating. Otherwise, right click on the “New Key #1” and select “Rename” option to edit the name.
- It should look like below in your registry editor.
- Now, select the new you have created and right click on it and go to “New > Key”.
- This will create a new subkey under the previous key you have created. Rename the new key with the value as InprocServer32.
- It should look like below and on the right side, you can see the “Name” as “Default” with the “Data” as “(value not set)”.
- Double click on the “Default” name to open “Edit String” pop-up. Alternatively, you can also right click on the “Default” name and select “Modify” option.
- On the “Edit String” pop-up, you do not need to enter any value and just leave the “Value Data:” as empty.
- Click “OK” and you can see the “Data” filed is now showing as blank without any value.
- Now, close your registry editor.
- Click on the Start menu, then the power button and choose “Restart” option to reboot your computer.
Checking Right Click Context Menu
Now, you can see the right click context menu is reverted like Windows 10 menu. You can find this change in desktop, right clicking in File Explorer and in all other places. Basically, the registry key completely disables the new Windows 11 right click context menu and reverted the interface to old Windows 10 menu.
You can anytime go to registry editor as explained above and delete the two keys you have created to move back to Windows 11 context menu.
