Nowadays people treat iPhones and iPads as their life partner. Right from opening the eyes, during the day and going to bed smart devices become unavoidable part of people life. As your kids and toddlers started using the iPhone and iPad for more time, it is a danger that they can access illegal and pornography sites by mistake. Hence, it is necessary to have parental control and restrict access to unnecessary sites. In this article we will explain the step by step process of how to restrict specific websites in iPhone and iPad.
Step 1 – Enabling Restrictions
Tap on the “Settings” icon on the home screen of your iPhone or iPad and navigate to “General” tab. By default the “Restrictions” option will be in “Off” mode.
Tap on the “Restrictions” option and touch “Enable Restrictions”.
Enter four digit passcode and enable restrictions.
Step 2 – Disabling Safari Browser
By default all websites are allowed to be opened in any installed browser like Safari. You can disable “Safari” option under “Allow” section to completely remove the browser from the iPhone or iPad. But this will disable browsing unless you have any other browsers installed on your device.
Step 3 – Restricting Specific Websites
As browsing the internet is required for many other useful purposes, it is highly recommended to restrict only specific websites. Scroll down to “Allowed Content” section and tap on “Websites” option.
You have three options as below:
- All Websites
- Limit Adult Content
- Specific Websites Only
By default all websites are allowed to be viewed. If you only want to limit adult content enable “Limit Adult Content” option which will restrict all adult websites automatically. In addition, you can also add websites manually and allow or restrict.
If you want to restrict all websites and allow only the specified websites then choose “Specific Websites Only” option.
There will be some default websites listed based on your location like Apple, Discovery Kids, Disney, National Geographic – Kids, etc. Tap on the “Edit” link and remove the sites not to be accessed by your kid. Add the list of websites by tapping on the last “Add a Website…” option and enter title and URL of the site.
Step 4 – Checking on Safari and Chrome Apps
Open “Safari” browser, you will see the favorite shortcut icons of all the allowed websites you have mentioned under “Specific Websites Only” option.
Enter “google.com” and you will be shown with the below message that the site is restricted. You can tap on “Allow Website” link and enter the passcode to access the site.
Let us open Google Chrome browser and try to access “google.com” to confirm the sites are blocked on all browsers. You will see the below error messages and there will be no indication that the site is being blocked by your own device.
