As you already, you can install extensions on Edge browser from Chrome Web Store. This is possible as both browsers are using the same Chromium backend. However, if you are migrating from Chrome to Edge, you don’t need to install all your existing Chrome extensions again on Edge. It is possible to import all installed extensions from Chrome to Edge without the need of reinstalling one-by-one.
Chrome Extensions
First, open your Chrome and go to chrome://extensions/ page. As you can see, we have three installed extensions – AdBlock, Google Docs Offline and Guidde. Out of three, only AdBlock is in active status and the remaining two are in disabled state.
Import Chrome Extensions on Edge
Now, open your Edge browser and go to edge://settings/profiles/importBrowsingData settings page. Since Chrome is installed on the same computer, Edge will automatically detect it and show an option for importing the data. Click on “Import” button showing against “Import data from Google Chrome” option.
You will see an “Import Browser Data” pop-up.
- Make sure Google Chrome is selected for “Import from” dropdown.
- If you have multiple profiles on Chrome, select the correct one from “Profile” dropdown.
- Check “Extensions” option and click “Import” button. You can uncheck remaining options if you do not need them.
- If you have selected Personal Info, Passwords or other options, you will be prompted multiple times to provide authorization (for each selected item). Type your admin password to allow Edge to access Chrome data.
- The extensions will be migrated in the background and you will see a message for that. Click “Done” button to close the pop-up.
Checking Extensions in Edge
Few seconds later (after migrating all Chrome extensions), you will see notification showing “We’ve installed your extensions from the new Microsoft add-ons website”. Since we have AdBlock on Chrome, this extension will open a new tab with additional information.
Go to edge://extensions/ page where you can find all Chrome extensions are migrated. As you can see, AdBlock is in active state while other two extensions are in inactive state as exactly in Chrome.

Microsoft Edge has so many cool functions that make browser apps like Chrome as redundant on your computer. You can save lot of time by migrating all Chrome extensions to Edge with few clicks. The only thing is that you should verify the extensions permissions in certain cases like AdBlock allow blacklist.
