Google integrated their Gemini AI chatbot in every product. Now, you can start a conversation with Gemini directly from Chrome browser’s address bar. This feature is called “Chat with Gemini” which allows you to get responses from address bar’s query. If you do not want to use “Chat with Gemini” feature in Chrome, then here is how you can deactivate it.
Disable Chat with Gemini in Chrome
- Open Chrome and click the three vertical dots icon on top right corner saying, “Customize and control Google Chrome”.
- Select “Settings” option from the menu that appears.
- Go to “Search engine” section from the left sidebar. If you are not seeing the sidebar, click on the kebab menu showing as three horizontal lines on top left corner (left to Settings heading).
- Click on the “Manage search engines and site search” option on the right pane.
- Scroll down to “Site search” section and find “Gemini” option under “Name” column.
- Click the three vertical dots icon at the end of Gemini option that says, “More actions” and select “Deactivate” option.
This will disable the ability to use Gemini from Chrome address bar.
Using Chat with Gemini in Chrome
If you wonder how to use Gemini in Chrome browser, make sure you have not deactivated and follow the below steps.
- Open Chrome and click in the address bar.
- Type @gemini which is the shortcut for Chat with Gemini feature in Chrome.
- Press Space or Tab key which is the default shortcut for using site search / search engines in Chrome.
- You will see the address bar showing “Chat with Gemini”.
- Type your query and press enter key.
- This will take you to gemini.google.com website and you will be prompted to login.
- If you have already logged into your Google account, you will see the response and able to start conversing with Gemini AI bot.
Note: Chrome will show a list of shortcuts when you type @ in the address bar. You can select @gemini from the list to use “Chat with Gemini” feature.
