What is Baidu?
Baidu is a leading search engine in China with more than 75% of market share. You can submit your site to Baidu through Baidu Webmaster Tools. Other than Site and Sitemap submission Baidu offers wide range of various free features for registered users. Unlike Google, Bing and Yandex Webmaster Tools Baidu offers Webmaster Tools only in Chinese language.
Over billion of Chinese users accessing internet it is worth to consider submitting your site to Baidu to tap huge traffic potential. This article explains registration, login and other features of Baidu Webmaster Tools in English to help webmasters.
Baidu Webmaster Tools Registration
Register here for a new Baidu Webmaster Tools account. As shown in the below picture enter email id, password for your account, verification code displayed, accept Baidu user agreement and click on the register button. You will receive a success message saying that the verification mail has been sent to your email id. You can also choose mobile number as a user id for registration if you are residing at China having local phone number.
Note: Sometime Baidu asks for SMS verification if it suspects a spam registration. You can get SMS verification code on your own mobile number by choosing the country from the drop-down. After clicking the verification email sometimes you may need to enter the verification CAPTCHA code in simplified Chinese characters. Use Google translate handwrite option to enter the characters using mouse and then copy/paste the actual character in the verification form.
Account Login
Activate your account by clicking the confirmation link received in your email and log in to Baidu Webmaster Tools account here. As shown in the picture below, choose normal login option, enter your email id, password and click on the submit button to login to your account. Remember to enter mobile number as user id if you have registered using your mobile number in the previous step.
Features of Baidu Webmaster Tools
Baidu webmaster tools offer various features for webmasters under six categories as shown in the below picture. Here we discuss some of the important features in detail.

Add a Site in Baidu Webmaster Tools
After login select “Add New Site” button and enter correct URL in the subsequent screen. Note http and https versions are considered as two different sites; hence add your correct site with or without www.
Verify Your Site
Choose the appropriate verification method, the common method is to Copy and paste the HTML code in your site’s header section. Publish your site after pasted the verification code and then click on the verify button. Your site will be added to Baidu Webmaster Tools account once verified successfully. Add URL
Whenever the content or URL of your web page is changed then you have an option to add that particular individual URL in Baidu webmaster Tools as shown in the below picture. The option is available under data submission section.
Enter your page URL, verification code and click OK button, you will see a success message box showing that your URL is added in Baidu Webmaster Tools successfully.
Remember submitting URL does not guarantee that Baidu will index your pages immediately, it may take several weeks or even later for Baidu spider to crawl your site and index the pages in database.
Sitemap
Baidu does not allow you to submit your Sitemap; this feature is available only on invitation basis. Based on the content quality of your site Baidu will inform you to add a Sitemap and then this option will be enabled in your webmaster Tools account for submitting a Sitemap. Ping
Ping is a tool to submit your blog feed to Baidu. You can also directly access this tool here without registering for Baidu Webmaster Tools. Ping is based on “XML_RPC standard protocol update notification service” for blog updates. This will quickly notify Baidu to crawl and index your blog posts in a timely manner. You can either manually submit your blog feed or configure for auto feed submission.

Page Optimization Suggestion Tool
Using Standardized formats helps the search engines to index your pages easily. This tool helps to detect whether a page is search engine friendly and gives recommendations. You can submit important pages in your site to get optimization recommendations.
Note you can submit only one page at a time and recommendations for each page will differ as it is the case.
Security Detection Tool
Check your site is not hacked and free from malware by using Baidu’s security detection tool. In case if your site is affected Baidu will display a warning message in the SERP. The warning message can be removed from the search results page by rectifying the issue and resubmit your site again. Learn more here.

I don’t have Chinese phone. How can I register??
Unfortunately, no other options with Baidu if you don’t have Mainland China mobile number. This is the situation for many years and does not seem to change soon.

There are no ways to bypass the phone verification and you need to have Mainland China phone number for that. If you have complete English website, probably it will not help to submit to Baidu at all.

Hi! I really understand the article and give it a try. However, registration is not succeed due to phone verification. I’m not a Chinese..pls is there anyway to bypass phone verification.

No option available if you are living outside mainland China.

Go to Google and search for Baidu Webmaster Tools and then click on the “Translate this page” link. This will open the page inside Google translate page and hope this helps.
