Alt Code Shortcuts for Medical Symbols

There are many medical symbols we use on daily basis. Unfortunately you don’t have an easy way to insert medical symbols on documents like Word, excel or PowerPoint. However, on Windows based computers, you can still use alt code shortcuts to insert medical symbols on documents. You can easily insert popular medical symbols including thermometer, degree symbol, accessibility, pills and syringe using these shortcuts.

Alt Code Shortcuts for Medical Symbols

Though there are some sick face emoji symbols, below is the complete list of medical symbols with decimal (alt + code) and hexadecimal (alt + X) code.

Note: Many people use 🦠 as Coronavirus emoji. However, this is a Microbe emoji symbol as per Unicode. The display of this emoji will look like a virus in Apple systems. Since, there are no virus or bacteria emoji available in Unicode, you can use this Microbe emoji.

Medical Symbols in Windows

There are multiple ways to insert these symbols in Windows computers.

• Hold one of the alt keys on your keyboard and enter the decimal code using the numeric keypad. For example, alt + 9855 will result in a wheel chair symbol like ♿.
• Use the hexadecimal code then press alt and x key to convert it into a symbol. For example, type 1F48A + alt + x will produce pill symbol like 💊. This will work only in Microsoft Word documents in Windows computers.
• In addition to keyboard shortcuts, you can use emoji panel in Windows 10 and 11 to insert medical symbols. Press “Win Logo + Dot” keys to open emoji panel pop-up. In that panel, search for medical symbols and insert on your document.

Inserting Medical Symbols in Mac

On Mac, you can use 4 digits hexadecimal decimal code with option key and Unicode Hex Input. For example, option + 2695 will produce the medical symbol or staff of aesculapius like ⚕. However, for other emoji symbols you need to use Character Viewer app. You can open Character Viewer by pressing “Command + Control + Space” shortcut keys from any app.
