1. Add Bookmarks in Chrome
Chrome allows you to bookmark a webpage in multiple ways.
1.1. Use Star Icon in Address Bar
Open your favorite webpage and click on the star icon located at the right end of the Chrome’s address bar. A dialog box will appear for you to enter the name for the bookmark and choose the folder to store the URL. Bookmarks bar is the default folder to store the bookmark and Chrome will remember the last used folder.
If you want to organize the bookmarks folder wise, then select the folder using the drop down menu. Click on the “New Folder” to create a new folder for storing your bookmark.
We recommend you to edit the name of the bookmarks so that it is easier to remember. Finally click on “Save” or “Done” button to complete adding bookmark in Chrome.
1.2. Use Bookmarks Bar
Open Google Chrome and press “Ctrl+ Shift + B” in Windows or “Command + shift + B” in Mac to open the bookmarks bar. Right click on the bookmarks bar and choose “Add Page…” from the context menu.

Remember you can drag and drop any URL on a page to the bookmarks bar. It need not be necessary only from the address bar.
2. Delete Bookmarks in Chrome
If you use bookmarks often, it is easy to accumulate hundreds of them. However, eventually you may have no wish to re-visit many of these pages again. Use any of these methods to remove bookmarks from Chrome.
2.1. Click the Blue Star

Extensions allow you to enhance the capability of Chrome browser. Go to Chrome web store or to the developer’s site and install one of the following extensions to have better bookmark management.
3.1 Save to Pocket
Adding bookmarks with this extension is easy. The Pocket icon will appear on the Chrome address bar and you only need to click on it. Save to Pocket allows you to add tags, so your bookmarked webpages become more organized.
You can add bookmarks with raindrop.io without visiting its website. It is advisable to choose the mini app option when you use raindrop.io to get the full functionality.
When adding new bookmark with Booky.io, you can add a description or category to make your bookmarks well organized.

When you use another web browser, it will be time consuming to add bookmarks manually. You can export bookmarks in Chrome to HTML format, which can be opened and imported by other web browsers.
Go to the URL “chrome://bookmarks/” and click on the three dot buttons on the blue bookmarks top bar. Click on the “Export bookmarks” and save the HTML file to a preferred location in your hard drive.
5. Import HTML Bookmarks to Chrome
Similar to exporting, you can also import bookmarks in HTML format to your Chrome web browser. Go to “chrome://bookmarks/” and click three dot buttons. Choose “Import bookmarks” option and upload the HTML file from your hard drive.
Chrome will show all imported bookmarks under a separate “Imported” folder without mixing with existing bookmarks.
6. Importing Bookmarks from Other Browsers to Chrome

You will see all installed browsers on your computer along with an option to import from “Bookmarks HTML File”. Choose the browser, select “Favorites/Bookmarks” checkbox and click on the “Import” button to import the bookmarks to Chrome.
7. Syncing Bookmarks Between Computers
With this method, you can easily and quickly use an identical list of bookmarks on different computers. Since Chrome version 4.0, you can use the Bookmarks Sync feature to move your bookmarks quickly to other devices. When you add or remove a bookmark, the change will be applied automatically to other devices as well. Remember you should sign into your Google account in order to sync the bookmarks on all devices.
You can log in to Chrome by going to “chrome://settings” and click on the “Sign in to Chrome” button.
8. Speed Up Access To Bookmarks
There’s no use of using bookmarks, if it takes time to access your bookmarks. Follow these steps to quickly access your bookmarks:
- Click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner
- Hover mouse pointer on Bookmark option and enable “Show bookmarks bar”
Your bookmarks bar should appear under the address bar for quick access. However, due to the limitation of space, only a few of bookmarks are displayed with arrow button to expand the list.
It is a good habit to categorize bookmarks into folder for quicker access. Right click anywhere on the bookmarks bar and choose “Add Folder” option. Enter the name for new folder and click on “Add” button. You will see the folder is added in the last position of the bookmarks section. You can drag to the top position and directly drop on the bookmarks bar. Now add or move preferred bookmark URLs into the new folder. You can create many folders on the bar and add quick accessible bookmarks.
9. Remove Bookmarks Bar
You can toggle the bookmarks bar by pressing “Control + Shift + B” or “Command + Shift + B”. But this will only work when you have opened any webpage. On a new tab page, Chrome enables bookmarks bar by default and you can’t remove it from the display.
Even you have no bookmarks or moved all bookmarks to a new folder, you will still see a bar with a text message showing to add bookmarks. If you are annoyed with the bookmarks bar then the easy way is to use extensions like Empty New Tab Page. This will enable a blank new tab page without bookmarks bar and thumbnails.
Well-managed bookmarks should be incredibly useful, because you can open any website or webpage easily, regardless of the complexity of their URL structure. Without good management, you will be flooded with hundreds of bookmarks, which will ironically waste your time. The above steps should make it far easier to organize your bookmarks and you will have much more enjoyable online experience with Chrome.
